Kings Park
Not only is Kings Park one of Perth’s top tourist attractions, it is one of the world’s largest and most scenic inner city parks. It’s also an epic spot to catch panoramic views of the city skyline and the Swan River. Kings Park has always been one of our favourite Perth picnic spots, it’s particularly stunning at sunset.
So grab your picnic mat, some cheese, a bottle of good wine and make your way to Kings Park for a magical evening. While you’re at it, check out our full list of Perth’s best picnic spots so that you don’t miss any other gems!

Blue Boat House
Not too far from Kings Park, the iconic Blue Boat House has become a very popular Perth photography location in recent years. From wedding photographers to keen Instagrammers, you’ll often find a queue forming here at any given time of day.
My suggestion? Head over there early to lock in your spot and beat the crowds. Bonus points if you can set your alarm before sunrise to snap a pretty sky while you’re at it!

Elizabeth Quay
If you’re new to Perth or just visiting on holiday, you’ll want to make sure that Elizabeth Quay has a spot on your Perth Itinerary. This lovely waterfront complex offers some great photography opportunities. Besides the picturesque scenery, there are plenty of reasons to stay a little longer at Elizabeth Quay.
There are many popular restaurants and waterfront bars with great views. The Reveley is a personal favourite, their rooftop bar overlooks the river making it the perfect spot for some relaxed afternoon cocktails.

Rottnest Island
Just 30 minutes by ferry from Perth, Rottnest Island is full of spectacular beaches providing you with an endless choice of Instagram worthy locations. Taking a day trip to Rottnest from Perth is an absolute must if you’re spending some time in the city during summer.
One of the best things to do on Rottnest is hire a bike and cycle around the island, stopping at the best beaches and bays as you go. Don’t forget to grab a Quokka selfie while your there!
If you have the extra time, it’s always a good idea to stay a bit longer on the island. Browse all of Rottnest Island’s accommodation options here.

Esplanade Park
Located near Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour, Esplanade Park is a large green space separating the waterfront from the city. It’s home to one of Fremantle’s most iconic landmarks, the Skyview Ferris Wheel.
For $12 per person, you can take a ride in one of the red gondola’s for sweeping views over Fremantle and Rottnest Island. Before you leave, don’t forget to capture it for the gram!
If you’re heading to Fremantle for the day, you’ll be pleased to know that there is a large concentration of photo-worthy spots. There are so many, that I only included two of them in this list. Check out my complete guide on the best things to do in Fremantle to find more great shooting locations.

Rainbow Containers
The Insta-famous rainbow containers located on the side of the Canning Highway might just be my favourite Fremantle photography spot. Colourful photos always do well on Instagram and what better what better way to achieve this than with a giant-sized rainbow!? Add a splash of colour into your feed by posing in front of this vibrant and unique art installation.

South Perth Foreshore
Nothing beats the South Perth Foreshore when it comes to a sunset picnic. Besides being one of the most Instagrammable places in Perth, this is a very popular place for locals to come for a walk or a cycle.
Day or night, sunrise or sunset, this view of the city is truly unbeatable and is pretty much guaranteed to perform well on the gram!

Lake Clifton Thrombolites
These fascinating rock formations are located near the city of Mandurah, just over a hour’s drive from Perth. The Lake Clifton Thrombolites are much more than just a pretty picture. Dating back nearly 2,000 years, they are only found in a small number of places in the world!
Take a stroll over the boardwalk to admire and learn about these amazing structures. This is a particularly nice spot to fly a drone if you have one. The shape of the boardwalk can make for an interesting photo, bonus points if you can time your visit for sunset!
Tie in your visit to the Thrombolites by taking a weekend getaway from Perth to Mandurah. There are many other great things to see and do in the area, find our complete guide to planning your visit here.

Perth Street Art
Street art always makes for an eye-catching backdrop on the gram and Perth definitely has no shortage of it! There are many cool murals to see around the city, check out this article for some more inspiration.
Of all the street art in Perth, here are a few of my absolute favourites with their locations:
- The pink and grey galahs on the side of the Mint Street Deli in Victoria Park.
- The koala and kangaroos in the Forest Square carpark in Subiaco.
- The lady with the pink hair near the Ria Malay Kitchen in Leederville.

Millbrook Winery
Come for the wine and stay for the stunning scenery. Located on the outskirts of the city near the historic town of Jarrahdale, Millbrook Winery may be one of the most beautiful hidden gems of Perth. The wine is delicious and the views are outstanding, what more could you want in a Perth photography location?
The best part about this winery is that you can either bring your own picnic basket or book a pre-made basket online. As long as you buy a bottle of their wine, they don’t mind if you set up a picnic on their grounds. Alternatively, you could dine in their award winning restaurant and just snap a photo on the way in.

Swan Valley
A visit to the historic Swan Valley is one of the most popular day trips from Perth. It’s an easy 25 minutes from the CBD and is home to over 40 beautiful wineries and 11 breweries. What can be more picturesque than rows upon rows of vines growing grapes for delicious wine?!
The Swan Valley easily makes the list as one of my favourite Perth Instagram spots because you can end the photo shoot with a wine tasting. The most popular way to visit is by booking a river cruise from Perth.
Board the boat near Perth’s CBD and enjoy a scenic ride along the Swan River. Once you reach the Swan Valley, you will be picked up by a coach that brings you to a number of wineries and breweries for tastings. The tour lasts for 8 hours and includes all wine and beer samples as well as a cheese board and chocolate tasting.

Cottesloe Beach
It’s easily one of the most popular beaches in Perth and for good reason. Cottesloe Beach is not only beautiful, it’s been a Perth icon for decades. It’s the local’s go-to favourite spot for swimming, sun bathing and snorkelling. When it comes to Perth Instagram spots, Cottesloe Beach is certainly worthy of a place on your list.
The best time to visit? Pack up a picnic basket and make your way to Cottesloe for a beautiful Indian Ocean sunset. Alternatively, stop in at one of the popular fish n’ chip shops nearby and enjoy a relaxed dinner on the green space near the beach.
